Ásít a város (The city yawns)
The city yawns is a Kamishibai, paper theatre originating from Japan. This genre transforms storybooks into theatres. I am very honoured to be able to create this project together with the publisher Csimota and Laura Bikki, it is truly a dream come true.
About Kamishibai:
The storyteller is facing the audience and places large illustrated boards inside a wooden frame that looks like a stage. On the back of each board there is a little text and the storyteller is narrating the story by reading this text and then changing the images, continuing the story.
It is originating from Japan and was very popular in the 1930s.
Story:
"This paper theatre is about yawning - it can find us anywhere and anytime. Yawning is there when we eat breakfast, stops at red lights, waits at the bus stop, office meetings. When the day is over, he goes to bed and the whole city yawns with him. Will he visit you?"- translated from the publisher's website.
